The new rhythm section of our band brought a totally different feel to our music. Although we were a tight band, there was a looser, more improvised feel to rehearsals and eventually gigs. We were having a lot of fun in our shows so I quickly wrote four songs to get new music out there and keep the momentum up. It was a no brainer to return to Echo Studios and have Jamie Masters work with us. We also returned to Jon Astley and his superhuman ears for mastering.
It was a tough time for me and the extreme highs and lows of this EP now demonstrate where I was mentally. Not that I knew it at the time.
Zero Hero
Music & Lyrics - Loz Jones
See that face now let's go wild and crazy
Smile and wave and don't forget to kiss the baby
Magic in action, a million people can't be wrong
Pavlov's dog is drooling and look at me clapping along
It's like you're stalking me, you're everywhere I seem to go
In the shops and bars and all kinds of TV shows
Skipping through the channels but I can't get away from you
And I still don't know what it is that you're supposed to do
Zero hero, just another one
Zero hero, what is it that you've done?
Zero hero, you I'll never need
I'm not buying what you're selling me
Sitting, waiting, hoping that your time will come
Undignified fall from grace for the special one
Now I'm fantasising while you just take the money and run
Zero hero, just another one
Zero hero, what is it that you've done?
Zero hero, you I'll never need
I'm not buying what you're selling me
They use words like genius, they're wrong
They're calling you a legend, they're wrong
You think we want to be like you, you're wrong, you're wrong
Counterfeit wisdom packaged up and sold in courses
Get the books and the discs and the shoes and the range of sauces
Mozart's in the jungle, DaVinci's judging ballroom dancing
Queuing up for Einstein's theory on pimping your ride
Zero hero, just another one
Zero hero, what is it that you've done?
Zero hero, you I'll never need
I'm not buying what you're selling me
Zero hero, just another one
Zero hero, what is it that you've done?
Zero hero, you I'll never need
I'm not buying what you're selling me
Part Of The Machine
Music & Lyrics - Loz Jones
Take a look past the rain on the window
Unaware, the world continues outside
You never could look at your reflection
Now you know it's the guilt in your eyes
No way to disguise
No way to disguise
It was all good, you slept well at night
A little bit of wrong to keep it all right
You said that nothing would change if you walked away
A cog in a wheel rolling out decay
Rising unseen, superficially clean
Part of the machine
Drive a car, rent a house, hold a bag
More than just a filler, serial killer
Part of the machine
You didn't think this was about you
She wouldn't have known or thought to blame you
Curled up and grey, forgotten for days
A world of pain in her frozen gaze
Never on the scene, somewhere in between
Part of the machine
Burn the rope, hide the knife, load the gun
Take the cash and lie, look away as they die
Part of the machine
Burn the rope, hide the knife, load the gun, live your life
Part of the machine
Step away, separate, not your fault, not your state
Part of the machine
Take the cash, tell a lie, look away as she died
Part of the machine
See the guilt in your eye, pull the trigger, say goodbye
Part of the machine
Making Sides
Music & Lyrics - Loz Jones
Hatred the noise that you shout into space
Spreading the anger etched into your face
Hoisting a flag, burning another
Abusing the past, divorcing a brother
Tempting the lost, a solution trick
A fist in the face of those easy to hit
Feed the fear with an image of hell
Taking control when the victims rebel
Aiming blame, inventing guilt, your demons born out of lies
Dreaming up the enemy so your army's got someone to fight
Stop making sides
Standing proud though you cover your face
Irony lost as you smash up the place
Tribal chants, one dimensional songs
Drawn into line by your need to belong
You know you're nothing new, your poison's been spat out before
Under the skin of hope, you're sliding the needle of war
Stop making sides
Hate a different colour of skin
Hate the church they worship within
Hate those who play other sexual beats
Hate the big house at the end of your street
Turn a blind eye, tomorrow they rise
Stealing my town, my country, my pride
Things that I loved converted to weapons
How can I get you to stop?
Aiming blame, inventing guilt, your demons born out of lies
Dreaming up the enemy so your army's got someone to fight
Stop making sides
Can You Hear Me?
Music & Lyrics - Loz Jones
Speeding out across a land that's good for nothing more than hurt
No light on the horizon, though my eyes are filled with dirt
Can you hear me?
There's so much I need to know
I try to picture what I'm seeing now without the damage done
An alien invader, am I helping anyone?
Can you hear me?
I don't know what's going on
Holding on to you in my head
Holding on to all the things you said
Well I look in through her eyes, just as I would an empty shell
She's seen them tearing up the sky, making a noise forged down in hell
Can you hear me?
I don't know what I can do
The dusty limo pushes past, our black reflections in the door
The anger looking back at me can't take it anymore
Can you hear me?
How can I just let it go?
Now I know how you lost control
The stolen hands
The stolen souls
Holding on to you in my head
Holding on to all the things you said
I need you now more than I ever did
I don't know what's going on

“This is a superb mix of Alt. Rock with chart friendly melodies and some great vocals. These guys are very tight and their tunes are remarkably infectious.”

“Loz Jones is one man, yet the name of a band. Their music is electro, but poppy with rock and their singer is a man, as well as a women. Loz Jones are strange yet catchy, weird but wonderful all at the same time.”
BBC Introducing
“What a smug and patronising twat this man is.”

“Loz Jones, a band that are already stars in their own right, or at least well on their way. The dynamic of the band rests with the lead singer whose voice captures even the hardest of hearing. The keys player adds the pop to their rock/pop stylings, giving their sound a more electronic/edgy feel. A friendly feeling sound that can have you tapping your feet and smiling before the first song is over.”

“If this is the sort of thing that is ‘grabbing the attention’ of the music industry, then it’s in worse shape than I thought”
