I don’t know if it was the entertainment company I was working for at the time or the fact that Christmas was upon us (probably both) but the happy-clappy joyous juggernaut of forced fun needed an antidote.  In four weeks I wrote a black comedy of eleven pop songs.

The band of course, brought the energy and atmosphere from our live shows to the studio and producer Jamie Masters worked with us to tighten up the arrangements.  The recording and mixing took eight weeks in Echo Studios with Jamie working his magic at the desk.  It was also expertly mastered by Jon Astley at Close To The Edge.

Edge Of Town
Music & Lyrics - Loz Jones

It’s not the money

It’s where I am

It sucked my spirit

Then spit me down

Leave me here on the edge of town

Where the money lives

Where they’re on the scrounge

Gonna find me a big cheese

No middle ground

My time has come

A bitter vengeance won’t make me rich

It’s not neurosis

It’s just a bitch

I read the book

Then I tore it up

They still believe it

They’ll get a cut

But I want much more

A bitter vengeance won’t make me rich

It’s not psychosis

It’s just a bitch

It’s not the way it should be

Can’t see anything more than I need

Gimme more

Inflicting pain with  my greed

But I can see from the outside

The way they make us bleed

It’s not the money

It’s who I am

I’m sucking spirit

Now I own the town

Don’t leave me here

A bitter vengeance won’t make me rich

It’s not psychosis

It’s just a bitch

Beautifully Naive
Music & Lyrics - Loz Jones

You feel you don’t belong

Black and white and never wrong

So easy you turn it on

But these times don’t last that long

When it’s easy to believe

Faith in all and beautifully naive

And it’s good to be afraid

Lasting longer than the stuff that you take

You get nothing in your way

When what matters changes day by day by day

Chasing dreams around the world

Faith in all and beautifully naive

The mad ideas fill your head

it’s a hunger that can’t be fed

So easily mislead

While we wait for someone else instead

Do it now

You’ll be fine

Change the world before closing time

How Can I Sleep?
Music & Lyrics - Loz Jones

You talk without thinking

I listen in much the same way

Politness hell

We go through the motions again

I walk away

Feeling warmer with every step

The things you said to me

They turn in my head as the sun sets

How can I sleep    Your words recoil

How can I sleep    Silent turmoil

How can I sleep    While my blood boils

How can I sleep

Trapped in the darkness

A cell which I share with your ghost

The things I want to say are pointless

Because they won’t stop you

How can I sleep    Your words recoil

How can I sleep    Silent turmoil

How can I sleep    While my blood boils

How can I sleep

I can’t stop you

I can’t stop myself

Over and over, can’t stop

Building confusion

Blurring the lines I hear

You are my demon

The one that I chose to bring my fear

How can I sleep    Your words recoil

How can I sleep    Silent turmoil

How can I sleep    While my blood boils

How can I sleep

Out OF Focus
Music & Lyrics - Loz Jones

I can’t believe this

I can’t believe this

I can’t believe what you sing

With your golden things and your diamond rings

You’re taking the soul out of those who believe in your lies

What you trying to hide?

You’re out of focus and dry

It means nothing to me

Your fantasy

Insanity

You don’t believe me

Don’t try to hear me

Don’t try to see what I see

You’re too blinkered to feed on my conspiracy

The bitterness drives what I say

I can’t keep it inside

What you trying to hide?

You’re out of focus and dry

It means nothing to me

Your fantasy

Insanity

You beat a trodden path

The story you tell won’t last

They’ll stop you from changing the rules

They’ll hurt you for thinking them fools

3 Minute Hug
Music & Lyrics - Loz Jones

Light breaks into the room

For a while, fate remains outside

Don’t want to move and I don’t need to

This is all I need to feel alive

This is your 3 minute warning            I don’t want to go

This is your 3 minute warning            It’s all you need to know

This is your 3 minute warning            No time to be afraid

This is your 3 minute warning             My love will never fade

Hear you breathing, feel your heartbeat

And the warm touch of your skin

This is the memory I take with me

For now I close my eyes and I try to pull you further in

This is your 3 minute warning            A siren in my head

This is your 3 minute warning            To tear me from this bed

This is your 3 minute warning            There’s nothing left to say

This is your 3 minute warning            It’s all there is today

It’s all there is, it’s all there is today

It’s all there is, it’s all there is today

It’s all there is, it’s all there is today

It’s all there is, my love will never fade

Idiot Room
Music - Loz Jones

Lyrics - Loz Jones and Lucy Jones

I know you’ve been there

Sometimes you kinda like it

A place to hide

Away from yourself and from the world outside

While you argue

You’re ticking down the hours

Creating nothing

Fingers in pies and a lust for power

Switch off, just walk into the Idiot Room

Don’t think, just talk in the Idiot Room

Grown ups at play we’re in the Idiot Room

If you want to stay you’re an Idiot too

You’re pacified

Remember, you said you’d rather die

A room with no views

Look at you gazing at your new shoes

Your random clicks

Playing with the coloured bricks

Switches twitching

Squeezed in between all the boredom bitching

Switch off, just walk into the Idiot Room

Don’t think, just talk in the Idiot Room

Grown ups at play we’re in the Idiot Room

If you want to stay you’re an Idiot too

You joined the sham

For a while though, you’re the man

A stolen story

Shout it out loud and claim all the glory

You’re always in there

You can’t afford not to like it

So scared you hide

Away from yourself and from the world outside

Switch off, just walk into the Idiot Room

Don’t think, just talk in the Idiot Room

Grown ups at play we’re in the Idiot Room

If you want to stay you’re an Idiot too

Watching You Think
Music - Loz Jones

Lyrics - Loz Jones and Lucy Jones

A camera lens like a sniper gun

Take the hit and pay for another one

It never lies, it just records

A dry eyed witness with no reality pause

Step outside and you’re on the run

Stay inside and see the terror spun

Controlling all the things you do

Chasing down what you’re dreaming too

From behind a screen, re-inventing sin

Thought police shifting law

Drink your ‘victory gin’

Out of reach they can justify

But money decides if you fit the crime, if you live or die

Step outside and you’re on the run

Stay inside and see the terror spun

Controlling all the things you do

Chasing down what you’re dreaming too

Watching you think, following you

Paying the price for what you’re going to do

Watching you think, following you

Paying the price for what you’re going to do

She Glows In The Dark
Music & Lyrics - Loz Jones

She’s out at night, taken in by the sound

Dressed up and sparkles from her hat to the ground

She’s the life and soul, everybody's her friend

She’s loving the now and she don’t need to pretend

There’s a place where she goes, where she likes to hang out

Where nobody knows what she’s all about

She likes to move on, but she stays for a while

Then the next joint beckons and she’s gone with a smile

It’s like she’s on the run

On the run, on the run, forever

From the reflecting sun

On the run, on the run, forever

She’ not the only one

On the run, on the run, forever

Never stop having  fun, never come undone

Tell me who’s that girl? - Nobody knows

She glows in the dark - Where does she get those clothes?

She won’t talk to me - She don’t care who you are

She’s dating herself, she’s an urban superstar

It’s what she is and it’s what she does

It’s how she lives coz it’s what she loves

She’s jumping all night coz she’s made of the stuff

But then she cries in the morning coz it’s never enough

It’s like she’s on the run

On the run, on the run, forever

From the reflecting sun

On the run, on the run, forever

She’ not the only one

On the run, on the run, forever

Never stop having  fun, never come undone

It’s Time
Music & Lyrics - Loz Jones

Get Angry

A white knuckled fist

Gotta get mad yeah

Can’t just exist

I’m seeing red

Deep enough to drown

They irritate me (so much)

Gotta bring ’em down

Oh, it’s not enough

Tear it up

Don’t take what’s on the page

Oh, now it’s time

Take a side

Unshackle your inner rage

Negative touch

Controlling how you feel

Emotion under lies

Confusing what is real

I wanna hit out

At everything I’ve seen

Gonna split my shirt and grow big muscles yeah

Turn an ugly shade of green

Oh, it’s not enough

Tear it up

Don’t take what’s on the page

Oh, now it’s time

Take a side

Unshackle your inner rage

It’s not enough

Build it up

Lock me in a cage

It’s not enough

Build it up

Unstoppable rage

Heckle
Music & Lyrics - Loz Jones

They continue to laugh

They don’t know the half

Of what you

Have done to me

I’ve been here so many times

I can’t work out why

Today

The line isn’t throw away

You keep attacking me

Slowly cracking me

What have I done to you

Trapped on a stage

Invisible rage

Why did you heckle me?

I stand beneath the lights

They hear all I say

But made your way

Words are more powerful

Your twisted mind is set

But I will not regret

The things I say

They won’t go away

You keep attacking me

Slowly cracking me

What have I done to you

Trapped on a stage

Invisible rage

Why did you heckle me?

Now all I see is nothing else but you and me

Now all I see is what you want

You refuse to regret

How it started

Our dangerous duet

You keep attacking me

Slowly cracking me

What have I done to you

Trapped on a stage

Invisible rage

Why did you heckle me?

Awaking Times
Music & Lyrics - Loz Jones

I left myself today

This is what I saw

From the outside in

Never seen before

We work, work together

Man made world, Made to measure

We accuse ourselves of destruction too often

It’s in our nature to build

I see cold, I see love

I see beauty, I see the ugly things too

Today I saw the beauty where ugliness lies

We all need these awaking times

We can talk and we can listen

Switching off unconscious automation

Not enough time within one life to remember what’s been done

Hear the music in a thunderstorm

I feel that I belong

Today I saw the beauty where ugliness lies

We all need these awaking times

We can talk and we can listen

Switching off unconscious automation

Not enough time within one life to achieve what can be done

Hear the music when the rain hits the ground

And I know i can’t be wrong

We all need these awaking times

Spoiling It For Everyone

“How, how on earth can that just be an unknown track on MySpace rather than something that's all over the playlists of the country?  It's classic, laconic English pop songwriting from Loz Jones!”

Broadcaster and music icon TOM ROBINSON reviews 'Idiot Room' on BBC 6 Music

“LOZ JONES debut is a delightful slice of laid-back indie-pop.  Loaded with crisp melodies and radio-friendly hooks, Spoiling It For Everyone is aimed squarely at the Robbie Williams crowd.  A well realised piece of work that echoes Williams's debut, it's a fine start from the Bedfordshire sextet.”

Rock'n'Reel magazine

“Idiot Room is classic Pop song writing drawing in on all of the things that make a great catchy Pop track.

The b-side is ‘Awaking Times’ and is a gentle tune that contrasts everything in ‘Idiot Room’, but showcases the depth that the band have.  Despite the fact that this band are unsigned, they may be on the verge of something good here.  This is a nice and tasty sample of some musical meal that I’d love to get my teeth into.”

This is my favourite review ever!

“A rare Indie sound that is sweetly tinged with innovative pop sounds, it is a world away from anything currently in the music scene. Their new single 'Idiot Room' is a buzzing track full of intoxicating synths and pulsing beats with insanely catchy breakdowns and choruses.”

Hats off for the most garish labels I've seen on a CD.  Idiot Room is a catchy piece of radio friendly pop.  But the b-side Awakening Times, shows there's more to the band than a novelty single.

“Very tasty stuff, very impressive and pretty damn cool.  No-way does 'Spoiling It For Everyone' sound like a debut work; it's solid, modernistic and extremely professional.  This outfit sound really together, supremely tight and totally focussed on their main event - making good music that's not just following others 'Spoiling It For Everyone' by Loz Jones is scarily good for a debut album and that title might just prove to be right on the money - watch out for this lot, they might just be coming into your home very soon!”

“Loz Jones are midway between classic sounding British Rock, Electronica and something as yet undefined but one thing for sure is these guys have the potential to take their music onto a bigger audience.  Idiot Room/Awaking Times is a two track mini epic that has me itching to get listening to more”

“Deceptively disarming is I think the best way of describing this twin set release from Luton based six piece combo Loz Jones.  ‘Idiot Room’ is such a slyly enticing treat and ’Awaking Times’ - what can I say - just melts.  A beautifully hazily glazed star lit gem orbiting lonesome and bruised and dispatched with a longing that frankly leaves you captivated, subdued and ultimately seduced.  Need I say more.  Good.  Go buy.”

Mark Barton

“Spoiling It For Everyone is a guitar and synth based pop album that while being easy on the ear and aimed squarely to the mainstream, does have some really good moments.  I loved 3 minute Hug, that would make a brilliant single, Edge Of Town is a slightly darker opening track and Beautifully Naive is about putting the world to rights in the pub which is something most blokes can associate with.  A fun and well produced album that finishes with a real twist in the tail as we get a female vocal leading the epic closer Awaking Times.”

Kev

The Beat Surrender.co.uk

“While other bands struggle for niche and genre, obsessing over whether a riff might 'sound a bit too flowery' or be 'lacking a raw edge', Loz and his talented ensemble prefer to dive straight into the lyrics and melody, crafting engaging and in some ways unique tunes that have won admirers across the South-East and beyond. Songwriting craft and the rhythm that underlies it, is a talent not seen nearly enough in popular music terms, but around the local live circuit and within the grooves of the band's debut album 'Spoiling It For Everyone' it's prevalent, it's alive, and it's humming!”

James Evans

Luton At Large

“Loz Jones - Luton's Finest

An instantly likeable bunch, a top drawer act you really ought to see.  Expect catchy tunes and musicianship sharp enough to pick your teeth with.  I snaffled a preview copy of 'Spoiling It For Everyone' after the gig. It’s in my car.  It’s jolly good”

Neil Skinner

Ealing Times

“There is something about Loz Jones.  A unique style to the bands music, lyrics and approach to their work.  Listening to their album 'Spoiling It For Everyone’, they could be a band to watch out for.  It seems that Loz Jones are headed for a bright future”

Luton at Large

“Recording with Loz Jones was a very enjoyable experience.  They're a great band who are very committed to what they do, and this clearly shows in the focused and exciting album they've made.  The first week of recording was the best part for me - working on arrangements with everybody and seeing how we could shape the songs. I'm very happy with the end result, a clash of big guitars and electro pop synths battling it out over great drum and bass grooves.”

Jamie Masters

Producer - Echo Studios

“Awaking Times is the final song from 'Spoiling It For Everyone'. Natalie sings a song that marvels at the achievements of the human race and looks positively ahead at what is yet to come.”
